Cuando un hombre es aficionado a saber, nada más que por el gusto de saber, las verdades absolutas y eternas sin que éstas modifiquen en lo mínimo su conducta, este hombre no pasa de ser un teórico, un intelectual, un curioso de las cosas del espíritu. Y cuando hay uno que trata de poner en práctica lo que ha aprendido, empeñado en perfeccionarse, poco a poco todos los días para llevar una vida superior y merecer un mejor destino, ese es un ocultista.

La diferencia, pues, entre un teórico y un ocultista, radica en la acción. El teórico se conforma con el sueño de la acción; el ocultista no está tranquilo si no realiza, siquiera en parte cada día, con la acción del sueño.

Las grandes religiones, consideradas esotéricamente, son muy poderosas por su origen, antigüedad y esencia. Y también por sus millones de afiliados y por los millones de dólares que atesoran. Sin embargo, no pueden detener al mundo que se despeña. ¿Por qué? Porque se han concretado al aspecto exotérico del culto, más que a la esencia de sus doctrinas. El Cristianismo es la más moderna y verdadera de todas. Pero los depositarios de esa Sabiduría la hicieron dogmática, y más apegada a los negocios del mundo que a los negocios del cielo. Los fieles, por su parte, prefieren seguir al Papa que seguir a Cristo; católicos en lugar de ser cristianos, pagar una misa en lugar de enderezar sus conductas.

El día que cualquiera de las Iglesias llamadas cristianas obliguen a sus miembros a seguir fielmente los mandatos de Cristo, los templos quedarían vacíos, y los sacerdotes y pastores tendrían que irse también.

Por eso es que el mundo —la multitud— está cada día peor. Y por eso es que los Poderes de la vida son conferidos nada más que a las élites y no a los nefelibatas entregados a la contemplación extática de la verdad. Esos poderes no se obtienen por gracia, sino que los conquistan los fuertes, los llamados a servir a la Verdad con perseverancia y valentía.

When a man is fond of knowing, merely for the pleasure of knowing, absolute and eternal truths without these modifying his conduct in the slightest, this man is nothing more than a theorist, an intellectual, a curious observer of spiritual matters. And when there is one who tries to put into practice what he has learned, determined to improve himself, little by little every day to lead a superior life and deserve a better destiny, that person is an occultist.

The difference, therefore, between a theorist and an occultist lies in action. The theorist is satisfied with the dream of action; the occultist is not at peace if he does not realize, even in part each day, the action of the dream.

The great religions, considered esoterically, are very powerful due to their origin, antiquity, and essence. Also because of their millions of affiliates and the millions of dollars they hoard. However, they cannot stop the world from plummeting. Why? Because they have focused on the exoteric aspect of worship rather than the essence of their doctrines. Christianity is the most modern and true of all. But the custodians of that Wisdom made it dogmatic, and more attached to the business of the world than to the business of heaven. The faithful, for their part, prefer to follow the Pope rather than follow Christ; being Catholics instead of being Christians, paying for a mass instead of correcting their conduct.

The day that any of the so called Christian Churches force their members to faithfully follow the mandates of Christ, the temples would be empty, and the priests and pastors would have to leave as well.

That is why the world, the crowd, is getting worse every day. And that is why the Powers of life are conferred only upon the elite and not upon the daydreamers devoted to the ecstatic contemplation of truth. These powers are not obtained by grace, but are conquered by the strong, those called to serve the Truth with perseverance and courage.
