Casi todo el mundo se conforma solamente con ser solo católicos o protestantes; pero son muy pocas las personas que quieren seguir los pasos del Señor en forma decidida, debido a que son gentes que todavía están viviendo la vida del cuerpo, esclavos de las exigencias de la carne, es decir, de nuestras necesidades más perentorias, condenados a comer, dormir, crecer y reproducirse, como las amebas, sin ningún incentivo más que libere sus almas de la rutina de la prosa y la vida diaria.

Cosa bien triste, por cierto, porque vivir de ese modo, francamente, no es vivir, ¡sino vegetar! Como las piedras y los árboles, pasan los años y siempre están en el mismo lugar. Y uno debe de ser como el agua que avanza, como el rio que corre, y no como las aguas inmóviles, estancadas, que a la larga se vuelven amargas y venenosas.

Almost everyone is content merely with being just Catholics or Protestants; but very few are the people who want to follow the Lord's steps decisively, because they are people who are still living the life of the body, slaves to the demands of the flesh, that is, to our most pressing needs, condemned to eat, sleep, grow, and reproduce, like amoebas, without any incentive beyond freeing their souls from the routine of prose and daily life.

A truly sad thing, to be sure, because to live in that way, frankly, is not to live, but to vegetate! Like stones and trees, the years pass and they are always in the same place. And one must be like the water that advances, like the river that runs, and not like the motionless, stagnant waters, which in time become bitter and poisonous.
