Oh you who have left behind the comfortable plain,
and walk the path upon the sacred mount,
barefoot and solitary, yet gaining height,
eager for pure air, for light and horizon!
Your ascent is a happy experience, and there is a moment
when it is cruel…
but it is worth having climbed!
Do not tremble if in the breeze some lament resounds,
hear it yourself just as a song rises to your ear,
little brother, climb with your ear attentive!
If a stone wounds you, if a thorn pierces you,
pay no heed, and happily repeat upon your instrument,
your inner and formidable divine melody!
Happy you who finally found the course
that will one day let you touch the cloud with your hands!
if you see that your path is steep and narrow,
it matters not, nor fear… climb, little brother, climb!
There are things that seem small and yet are great,
there are people who tread abysses where no one walks;
be like those brave children of the Andes,
who advance while playing their divine music!
Napoleón Tercero Amador
