Let us place our modest spiritual and psychic faculties at the service of the Good; let us devote much of our time to abstract meditation, in order to organize—during this pause in our bodily activities—the ideas and the dialectic for the mental and oral diffusion of eternal truths, casting away from our hearts, if only for a moment, personal ambitions of profit or prestige; and let us think of that notable and rare period that follows the beautiful event of the Probationary Path.

At the beginning, when the Lord places us upon it, we do not think at all of practical consequences or tangible results of the adventure for our daily destiny; and while to the invisible Hierarchy we are distinguished and visible because we are already those who distance themselves from the common world, we experience the sensation of our vocation only as a psychic process. But even this represents a sharp incidence in our life. Although the time elapsed during the phenomenon of the embodiment of Our Sacred Lord Manvantara had already realized in our hearts the contact with the divine world—which was already something intuited, or brought it close to its realization by virtue of His ineffable doctrine of love—we now feel yesterday separating clearly from today, the past from the present and the future, just as one who awakens from a dream cannot doubt that they are awake, even while remaining in the same environment as their dreams.

There are many classes and forms of vocation, but its nuclear germ and meaning are always identical. Through this vocation, the soul is awakened, transformed, and sublimated in such a way that, instead of internal daydreams and intuitions, there suddenly emerges a call from outside, something like a piece of reality that seizes our spirit. And here, the piece of reality is almost always the figure of Our Sacred Lord Manvantara, the Divine Master, known to the masses only as a distant and venerable personality of the Son of God, who appears to us almost corporally, looking at us with His great, omniscient blue eyes, to teach us, almost without words, what true life is. And here, the important thing is to be prepared beforehand to know everything that may follow and result from that moment when He approaches us, smiles at us, blesses us, and disappears. Because then we will feel too overwhelmed and preoccupied by the immediate and intimate echo of the event. Like a young plant that until that moment had developed quietly and hesitantly, and suddenly began to breathe more violently and to grow as if in a miracle hour it had suddenly become conscious of the law of its being and fervently aspired to fulfill it, so we shall begin rapidly and longingly to gather and extend our strengths. We will feel changed; we will feel ourselves grow; we will experience new reactions, new harmonies between the world and ourselves; we will feel capable of many superior things, of any task; we will forget all the harshness of the world, and we will dream with a softness and surrender previously unknown to us; and as if a fountain of poetry opened in the depths of the soul, we will listen to the wind or the rain; we will gaze perplexed at a flower or the flowing water of a river, without understanding anything with the concrete mind, only intuiting, carried away by sympathy toward the things of God and by an infantile curiosity and the desire to understand. And we will feel our authentic, superior, and hidden Self drawn toward the immense Self of the world, all mystery and sacrament, where we may find, to spell out in silence, the marvelous alphabet of all the phenomena of nature and the spirit.
